iBank reports/charts

Postby kenglade » Sun Feb 07, 2010 2:11 pm

Does anyone find the iBank Charts /Reports confusing?

I switched to iBank about eight months ago when I turned to Mac and abandoned Win. Now I'm trying to compile some annual reports because I list my deductions. However, when I use the iBank Chart system (no matter if I set it to monthly, quarterly or annually) the charts all come out the same (two pages by month) and I haven't been able to figure out how the figures are derived. For example, one chart insists on including "income" (but I don't know where the figures come from) since I'm trying to compile only "expenses."

If anyone can enlighten me, I'd be grateful.

Hi Ken,

Each category can be designated as an expense category or not. Expense categories will be tallied under the Expense section of the cash flow report, and the others will be under the Income section.

Note that you can enter a negative amount and assign it to an income category, and you'll see the impact of that transaction in the Income section even though the amount is negative.

If you find yourself doing this regularly, it may be worth reflecting on the logic behind your category assignments. You can add and delete categories as your needs dictate.

The reports associated with the various chart types aren't configurable at present. We've heard a lot of demand for more flexibility on the reporting end, and significant improvements are in the works for a future version.

In the meantime, you may find it helpful to export data from your charts to a CSV file and build your desired report from that data in another applications such as Numbers, OpenOffice, or Excel. CSV means comma separated values; it's a standard text format for data, and many programs can work with it.

Thanks, Jason. I really only use this feature around tax time but it's comforting to know you guys are working on improvements.

Yes, the custom reports only showing one years worth of data from the start date is annoying.
