Citicard Bad Server Certificate????

Postby donebylee » Fri Jun 05, 2009 5:10 pm

Just had this happen today. My Citibank MasterCard account no longer downloads transactions, instead I get the dreaded bad server certificate.

Anyone else seeing this?

I spoke to Citibank and they said their server was down and it should be up in 24 to 48 hours. Keep the pressure on them.

So I just got off the phone with CitiCards and the latest is...iBank is not supported and they say they have no problems downloading to Quicken. Safari is not a supported browser - so they won’t help here. If anybody wants to follow up with them their number is 1-800-347-4934. This was after I told them I spoke to them yesterday and they noted that their OFX server was down!

I am not sure that the problem is not in the ibank program - I was able to download from their website my last statement. So now I am really confused! I will send Jon a noted and see what he says as well. If anyone finds anything out - please advise.

Not that I like to give up - I tried to download from Quicken and got and OL-249 error message. I then called Citibank again and this person told me they had a ticket on this problem and they have been working on it but couldn’t give me an exact time it would be fixed but I should try back in 48 hours! I think we need to have other people call them and report the problem.

Users are reporting that Citibank is back online. Please let us know if you have any further problems connecting. You may need to disable and re-enable online access for your accounts in order to connect.

I have had this issue for 8 days now. Since last Thursday. Citibank is aware of it and actually rebated a late payment fee as a result. No idea if and when functionality returns.

I have been having this issue downloading from CitiBusiness Credit Cards into Quicken 2006 for Mac (using direct connect). Many calls to Citi have resulted in repeated assurances that it will be fixed in 48 hours.

However, I think that I have discovered some magic on the Intuit site that fixes things in my Quicken software itself. Evidently, there are some certificates that need updating inside hte Quicken bundle.

Here is the link to the Quicken Answer ID 7368

The solution is sort of bizarre, and the directions are sort of broken.

You basically download a DMG archive (the link is at the end of the page above), but the downloaded file is not named what the page indicates. However, if you double-click the file (which is just named "Quicken") it mounts a volume with the "Quicken Certificate Updater.app".

Then, instead of double-clicking this app, you find your copy of Quicken and drag it onto the app.

You need to authenticate as admin user (for some reason), but after Quicken is updated you can launch it and you should be able to download transactions.

At least, it worked for me for downloading from CitiBusiness Credit cards.

This fix (updating the certificates in Quicken) worked for me as well. I'm also using Quicken for Mac 2006.

OK, I spoke too soon. Though I was able to download transactions from Citi after applying the patch I discovered, I soon encountered another problem: The transactions download with the credit/debit amounts backwards. That is, credits appear as debits, and vice versa.

But not entirely backwards. It seems that some of the data downloads correctly, and other transactions download incorrectly.

My situation may be a bit unusual, in that I am creating a new Quicken account and when you do that you get a year of transactions downloaded. I haven't checked carefully, but it seems like transactions from recent periods (statements) are wrong, while earlier segments are correct.

And Citi knows about this problem! I called their tech support line, and spoke with an actual intelligent person (or, a good actor), who checked and found that other people are reporting this problem and that the developers are working on it. "Give it a week", he said.

Of course, that doesn't inspire confidence since the original problem (bad SSL certs) that Citi was hard at work to solve actually turned out to be a Quicken problem fixed by the patch.

The debits/credits downloaded correctly after updating the certificates earlier today. There were only about a dozen ttransactions and they were all within the last two weeks.

...by the way, since the last few posts cover a Quicken problem/solution, it may have nothing to do with transaction downloading issues for iBank users.

iBank doesn't keep its certificates inside the application bundle like Quicken does, so it shouldn't need to be updated in this manner. iBank uses WebKit (the same tools that underlie Safari), which relies on Keychain to manage certificates. If you are still having persistent issues with your Citibank accounts, first disable and re-enable online access for those accounts in iBank to see if that helps. If it doesn't, try running Software Update to make sure you have all the latest updates (including Safari 4) installed. This might help resolve the issue, assuming that things have been properly fixed on Citi's side of the equation.
